This property is a good example of the style of Manor houses or Pazos as they are known in Galicia, owned and lived in by a long line of members of the Royal family, and frequented by a whole number of famous writers and poets. This 12^th century church is a good example of Romanic art in Galicia and belonged in the past to the knights Templar. The nearby medieval chapel (in the past the defense tower) forms part of the property and is the private family mausoleum. Also just behind the property starts the marvellous nature park of Caurel with a rich variety of flora and fauna and a few Km. to the north you will find the French Pilgrimage road to Santiago de Compostela . At about 20 minutes by car the historic town of Monforte de Lemos offers a local hospital, a variety of big supermarkets, all kind of local shops, banks, schools, good restaurants, a lively night life and many important monuments. Worth to visit are the centre of the town with an impressive 17^th century building (“El Cardenal”) with paintings of El Greco and a castle with a monastery and palace on the top of a hill. This belonged in the past to the count of Lemos and is actually a Spanish state hotel (Parador). Further on you can visit the convent of “Las Clarisas” with an important museum of sacred art and very close to the convent you can cross the medieval bridge over the river Cabe…Very recommendable are the local festivals in the middle of August.
